Keeping the dream alive

Six months ago I decided to write my first blog post….today I finally share it with you…

As I was getting ready for my day I realised that today our baby girl turns 3 months old. I can’t believe she has been in our lives for 3 months already, yet, it feels like she has always been a part of our lives. And, with this thought, came another…this week I finally get the damage in my right knee repaired.

Leading up to the birth of our baby girl, I was so proud of how I had managed to take care of my health and fitness during my second pregnancy with Pilates, Yoga and walking, even taking a pregnancy yoga class the morning our angel entered the world. I was so looking forward to taking my precious baby girl on walks while Master J was at childcare, spending the summer outdoors with my family and simply enjoying my beautiful new family during my favourite time of the year.

However, within a couple of weeks of having our beautiful baby girl, I did some significant damage to my right knee simply sitting awkwardly one night to feed her. And, within a week, I was diagnosed with a complex tear of the right medial meniscus.

So, it wasn’t a life-ending diagnosis nor did it mean I was to spend weeks in hospital. However, for a new mum with a 2 week old and toddler, it was a very frustrating, upsetting diagnosis, as it meant that I was severely limited as to what I could do until I could be reviewed by an Orthopaedic Surgeon.

Well, it was late November, and apparently even surgeons want to take summer holidays! It was almost 2 months before I could get an appointment with an Orthopaedic Surgeon. And another before surgery could be scheduled. Goodbye summer!

The past few months have been really hard, and my favourite time of the year has been spent inside looking at the sun through the window.

It’s not what happens to you in life, it’s how you deal with it that matters

However, as my Mum has always said to me, it’s not what happens to you in life, it’s how you deal with it that matters. So, on the days when I have been struggling the most and feeling frustrated and sore, I have focused on my dream of launching a fitness and health service for mums and mums-to-be. I have spent the past few months focusing my energies on my dream, and from this MumaBubs has been created.

I want to empower mums with information. I want to provide safe, effective exercise programs to not only feel energised and happy, but also ensure that they look after their bodies during this beautiful time of creating a new life. And I want to then be able to assist these amazing women recover from the physical and emotional demands of bringing a new life into this world.

A women’s body goes through so many changes during this period, and I want to ensure that there is a service out there that assists and supports women to not only look and feel good again, but also ensure that such issues as pelvis instability, pelvic floor weakness, and other issues that arise during this time in a women’s life, are dealt with in a supportive, caring environment.

There is still so much to do before I can even start fitness classes, however, the first steps have been taken, the goals for 2015 have been set and I’m ready to finally make this dream a reality….
