It’s time to look after YOU….

Being a mum is the most rewarding, but, in my opinion, the hardest job in the world.

There is no manual that comes with a child when it is born, and I’m yet to come across a tertiary qualification, diploma or apprenticeship that formally qualifies you to be a mum. And it doesn’t matter how many other mums tell you all about what being a mum is like – until you are a mum you don’t really know what you’re getting yourself into.

But, for all the challenges, tears, tantrums and sleepless nights, I would not give up this job for the world. The smiles, the cuddles, the giggles, all the firsts, especially the first “I love you”, and so much more, are all worth it!

However, I have my good days, my great days and then the days that never end – and when they finally do I am so thankful for that glass of wine! And, with all the demands that come with being mum, by the time the end of the day comes, it’s highly unlikely that I’ve done anything for me.

This past week it became really apparent with so many of my friends and clients going down with one of the many viruses, colds and flus going around, that, as mums, we are so busy looking after our families that we don’t always look after ourselves or deal with our own issues. And we always put our health and well-being last.

But, we do need to look after ourselves, both our physical health and our emotional health. And let’s face it, when we are well, healthy and energised, it is so much easier to look after those we love.

We need to nurture our bodies, our minds and take just a little time to deal with those issues we push to the side because we feel everyone else is more important.

So, the Jean Hailes Women’s Health Week, starting tomorrow, couldn’t have come at a better time. It’s a week dedicated to women focusing on their health, physical and emotional, learning more and taking action.

I urge you to make your health a priority this week and register today at Women’s Health Week. And share this with those friends that you know also need to make their health a priority.

Women's Health Week

So, this week, put aside a little time and make yourself a priority…because your health and well-being are just as important as those you care for… it’s time to look after YOU…
